Appeal: Review of a lower court’s decisions regarding questions of law. The party doing the appealing is the ‘Appellant‘. The non-appealing party is the ‘Respondent.'
Appellant: A party to a lawsuit who requests a higher court review of a decision made by a lower court, usually the trial court, on points of law or procedure.
Appellate court~ A court with authority to hear an appeal
Arbitration: An alternative to trial where the decider is an individual or a panel who makes a decision based on the evidence and testimony presented. The rules of evidence apply as they would in a courtroom Exocet that more evidence can be presented in writing without a live witness to testify about it. The arbitration hearing is conducted in a formal setting with both parties in the same room presenting evidence and argument. This type of proceeding may be required by contract or agreed to voluntarily by the parties to the lawsuit.
Arbitrator: The panel or individuals or the individual who is the decision maker in the arbitration hearing. Individuals are often retired judges or experienced attorneys.

assumption of Risk- Assumption of risk is a defense to a personal injury suit. Assumption of risk essentially says that the Plaintiff knew the risks of whatever dangerous activity or condition caused the injury in sports like skiing or skateboarding where injuries are known to be common but chose to participate despite the risk, and as a result, is responsible for their own injury. This legal defense has been limited by the courts so that it only applies in certain circumstances

interlock program - In Maryland, a driver may choose, or may be required, to participate in an interlock program. In the interlock program a device is connected to your car's ignition. At intervals, you are required to blow into the device. If your breath indicates a blood alcohol content of 0.25 or greater, the car's engine will not start. If it is running during the test, the engine will shut off. In either case, the failure will be reported to the MVA and may trigger additional sanctions.
